Two distinct sites but in a similar vein: Employee Mobile Scheme and Employee Computer Scheme.
Both offered employees the ability to purchase a mobile handset (with and airtime contract) or a computer by paying for it out of their salary. Due to the various tax breaks and implications the site was audited by Olswangs Solicitors and HMRC and had to meet their exact requirements.
The site is designed for easy replication and rollout, with a new site turnaround of less than 3 hours. It uses many interesting Javascript techniques to provide an extremely dynamic and interactive user experience.
A full multi-user back office was developed which implemented complex user access rights and permissions. Orders were exported to multiple external systems for onward processing by employing XML and XSLT.
The site has since been rolled out to several employers and ten of thousands of employees and it is predicted to generate gross profit in the first year in excess of £1m.
